The Overseas Koreans Foundation announced on the 4th that it will hold the World Korean Presidents Convention at Lotte Hotel World in Songpa-gu, Seoul from October 1st to 4th.

This event is a venue for mutual exchange between Korean associations around the world.

This year, approximately 450 people will participate, including the current Korean Association President, presidents and executives of the Korean Association Federations of 10 continents, and invited guests from overseas Korean organizations.

A variety of programs are operated under the theme of ‘Contributing to building a global hub nation through the global Korean network.’

Since the opening of the Overseas Koreans Office, the first official schedule will be to announce the results of measures taken in response to suggestions raised through events and meetings for overseas Koreans, such as ‘Feedback on suggestions from the Overseas Koreans Community.’

A discussion will also be held to seek new unification discourse and international solidarity measures with the overseas Korean community.

In addition, a workshop related to the ‘Project to Include Korean Political and Economic Development in Foreign Textbooks’ promoted by the Korean Association was established, and a policy field-specific discussion session was established to listen to the voices of the people regarding policies for overseas Koreans.

On the 4th, the last day of the event, the ’18th World Korean Day (October 5th) Commemoration Ceremony’ will be held. World Korean Day is a legal commemorative day designated to promote the rights and interests of overseas Koreans and development between the mother country and the Korean community.

Lee Ki-chul, the head of the Overseas Koreans Association, said, “In order for the World Korean Presidents’ Conference to become a forum for discussion that provides real benefits to the Republic of Korea and the overseas Korean community, rather than a one-time, exhibition-style event, it must first provide feedback on government measures regarding the opinions presented so far.” He added, “I will work to create an Overseas Koreans Association that truly communicates.”
