World Mental Health Day already has a visual identity

A universal right’. The winning slogan was endorsed of 29% of the votes, becoming the most voted option among the five that were proposed As in previous years, the central theme takes as a reference the line marked internationally by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH), which is mental health as a universal right. Under this premise, the image, elaborated by the designer Antonio Lorenteseeks to reflect the diversity of the world population and the strength that all this diversity, united, can contribute to a better, accessible, universal, quality mental health that respects the human rights.

The people who appear in the image hug each other and all of them turn to the globe, as a symbol of union and of the care and support that we need to achieve decent and quality mental health, for all generations: people older, younger, childhood, and even this year’s identity also includes a pet, specifically a dog, to play the leading role of animals in therapy and in many recovery processes. The expressions on the faces of the characters seek to convey tranquility, optimism, hope and a point of pride for the achievements achieved and challenge, for those that remain to be achieved. On the left side of the illustration, a woman hoists a flag with the SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA logo, symbolizing the activity of the associative movement as the main actor in the defense and claim of human rights. On the other side, a young man with his fist raised, to whom a broken restraint strap is attached, symbolizes the struggle, activism and desire for victory for mental health care that is respectful of people and their fundamental rights. Let us remember that even today, the protocols allow mechanical restraints in hospital psychiatric units, despite the fact that the UN has declared it a form of torture.

For yet another year, in 2023, the Confederation has joined the theme proposed by the World Federation for Mental Health, which this year has focused on mental health as a universal human right.
