BOLZANO. World Mental Health Day is celebrated on October 10th, with the aim of raising awareness of mental health problems globally and mobilizing efforts to support this fundamental issue. This Day aims to fight the stigma and discrimination that still surround mental health today. In this context, the Italian Society of Psychiatry (SIP) of Trentino-Alto Adige promoted this information and awareness event.
As Dr. Giancarlo GiupponiPresident of the Italian Society of Psychiatry, Trentino-Alto Adige Section, and Prof. Andreas ConcaHead of the Psychiatry Service of the Bolzano health district, it is important to keep alive the interest in mental distress in the entire community, not only among professionals, as its prompt recognition and treatment protects the health and life itself of the people who are affected.
People with mental disorders continue to face discrimination and are marginalized by harmful stereotypes in the family, in schools and in the workplace and hinder the achievement of healthy relationships, social interactions and inclusive environments necessary for the well-being of all members of society. Illuminating the Bolzano Hospital in green on this day, the symbolic color of mental health, highlights the healthcare company’s commitment to ensuring that mental health is recognized as an integral part of overall health. To further raise awareness in the community on the topic of mental health, an exhibition was also set up at the Lorenz Böhler-Foyer entrance of the Bolzano Hospital which includes works created by users and artistic installations.
