jpnn.com – YOKOHAMA – A big surprise occurred in the first match of the 2024 Japan Open Super 750 semifinals.
China’s world number one men’s singles player Shi Yu Qi was knocked out.
Shi Yu Qi lost to French representative ranked 29th in the world, Alex Lanier in the semifinals at the Yokohama Arena, Saturday (24/8) morning WIB.
Shi lost 21-17, 16-21, 18-21 in a match that lasted one hour and 23 minutes.
It was the first meeting for both players.
Lanier became a giant killer, defeating players ranked far above him.
Before defeating Shi Yu Qi, Lanier defeated Lee Zii Jia (Malaysia), Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo (Indonesia), and Kenta Nishimoto (Japan).
