Organized as part of Ocean Week, initiated by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection on the occasion of World Oceans Day, this activity aims to inform students about the important role played by this lighthouse in maritime navigation, as well as to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the coastline and the ocean.
On this occasion, representatives of the Ministry of Equipment and Water and specialists in the maintenance and preservation of lighthouses led awareness workshops for the benefit of these students.
In this wake, the head of the department of port security and coastal navigation at the Ministry of Equipment and Water, Nissrine Lazaar stressed that this department organizes, in partnership with the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of Environment, a set of awareness activities for the benefit of students as part of Ocean Week.
In a statement to MAP, she said that these activities include the organization of visits to certain lighthouses in the Kingdom, including that of El Hank in Casablanca, stressing that this visit highlights the importance of preserving the oceans and the role of the ministry in protecting the coastline and the ocean.
In a similar statement, the Regional Environment Coordinator at the regional directorate of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports of Casablanca-Anfa, Dounia Maghar affirmed, for her part, that this visit takes place at the occasion of the celebration of World Oceans Day, which this year is being held under the theme “Discovering new depths”.
She further indicated that this awareness activity targets, in particular, students participating in the “Young Journalists for the Environment” program as well as ecological schools, adding that this visit was marked by the organization of several workshops. awareness raising highlighting the importance of the oceans.
The students who benefited from this visit expressed their satisfaction with their participation in this activity, noting that they were able to discover different lighthouses in the Kingdom and the importance of the oceans and their preservation.
Ocean Week is a major national initiative dedicated to the development and exploration of ocean resources. This week, initiated by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection in collaboration with several partners (June 3 to 8) in eleven Moroccan coastal cities from Al Hoceima to Dakhla, is an opportunity to highlight key sectors such as the blue economy, ocean infrastructure, circular economy, underground heritage and marine science and technology.
