World Poetry Day – March 21

Today, March 21st, her day vernal equinox, which marks the beginning of springis celebrated World Poetry Day. The particular day was chosen by United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization the 1999 “aiming to support linguistic diversity through the poetic expression and yes increase the opportunity for endangered languages ​​to be heard». In our country the celebration was established a year ago, the 1998after the initiative of the Society of Greek Writersinspired by poet and producer of talk shows of the Third Program of ERA Michalis Mitras.

On the occasion of her World Poetry Day and in its context March as the month of the Womanthe Archive of ERT, honoring the Greek poetspresents a composition of passages from six different shows dedicated to our six important women poetswhich they read their poems and talk about poetry.

TRIBUTE TO GREEK POETS

In particular, the following poets are presented. Initially, the award-winning poet Maria Lainawho passed away in December 2023, reads a poem from her collection “In a dry place” in the context of the show «The book” production 2015. Then, the Matsi Hatzilazarouwhich is considered by many as the first hyperrealist poet in Greecehe recites in the show’s episode «Women’s Portraits» production 1984, which was dedicated to her. Subsequently, the important poet of the interwar period, Melissanthirecites her work as part of the show “Monogram”, production 1988. The great one Katerina Angelaki Rook she recites her poem «Loneliness” from the show “The magic of people” production 2019. THE poet, art critic, and art historian Eleni Vakalos reads an excerpt from her collection “Facts and stories of Mrs. Rodalina” in the episode of the show “Monogram” production 1985. Finally, the Kiki Dimoulas, important poet of the second post-war generation and regular member of the Academy of Athens in the chair of poetryrecites and talks about her involvement with poetry on the show “Monogram” production 2013.
