World “Professional” Championships, South Tyrol is present in Lyon with 12 athletes for 10 different professional categories – News

BOLZANO. The WorldSkills World Skills Championships will take place from September 10 to 15 in Lyon, France. South Tyrol will be represented by twelve competitors in eleven different professional categories. In Lyon, 1,400 participants from more than 69 nations and regions will compete in 59 professional categories.

Of the twelve participants of the South Tyrolean team, only one is a girl. In addition to the professions related to craftsmanship (such as carpenter, painter, bricklayer, etc.), technological and digital professions are also in the competition.

In fact, there will be two professional categories in these fields: CAD mechanical design, represented by Roland Insam (Santa Cristina) and digital construction BIM, represented by Felix Gostner (Renon), student at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Innsbruck.

“In a world increasingly oriented towards digitalization and sustainability, giving visibility to digital professions in an international context such as WorldSkills means enhancing not only technological skills, but also the combination of innovation and tradition, showing how artisanal professions can evolve and integrate with new technologies to continue to be relevant and competitive in the global panorama”, he stated. Meanwhile, the WorldSkills 2024 International Invitational Competition, an international competition preparatory to the WorldSkills that will take place in Lyon in September, was held at the Institute of Technology in Shenzhen, China.

Italy was the only European nation to participate. In this context Martino Dorostudent at the Free University of Bolzano under the tutorship of Prof. Kuno Prey of the Faculty of Design and Arts, ranked third, winning a bronze medal in the industrial design and cloud computing category.
