Pumas 7s Set to Compete in Singapore as World Sevens Circuit Evolves

The Argentine Pumas 7s team embarks on a new phase of the World Sevens Circuit this weekend in Singapore, aiming to build on their recent success as runners-up in Cape Town, South Africa. This year’s competition features a revised format and a challenging pool for the Argentines, signaling a dynamic shift in the global sevens rugby landscape.

The competition’s structure has undergone significant changes, moving from 12 participating teams in the previous season to a streamlined format of eight core teams – Argentina, Australia, Fiji, France, Great Britain, New Zealand, South Africa, and Spain – competing across six stages.

Group B Presents a Formidable Challenge

The Pumas 7s have been drawn into Group B, where they will face tough competition from Australia, France, and New Zealand, the victors of the opening stage in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This grouping promises intense matches and a crucial test of Argentina’s capabilities early in the tournament.

A New Circuit Format for Increased Intensity

The six stages of the core tournament will be held in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Cape Town (South Africa), Kallang (Singapore), Perth (Australia), Vancouver (Canada), and New York (United States). Following these initial stages, the top four teams from the SVNS 2 second division will join the core eight for three final stages – the SVNS World Championship – in Hong Kong, Valladolid (Spain), and Bordeaux (France). The ultimate champion will be crowned at the conclusion of the Bordeaux leg.

Past Successes Fuel Current Ambitions

Notably, the Pumas 7s have experienced success on Singaporean soil, securing a gold medal in Singapore in 2025 after a thrilling final victory against Great Britain. This prior achievement will undoubtedly serve as a source of motivation as they navigate the current competition.

Squad Ready for Action

The Argentine squad selected for this challenge includes: Luciano González, Marcos Moneta, Santiago Mare, Joaquín Pellandini, Santiago Vera Feld, Santiago Álvarez, Martiniano Arrieta, Juan Patricio Batac, Pedro De Haro, Matteo Graziano, Valentín Maldonado, Eliseo Morales, Gregorio Pérez Pardo, and Santino Zangara. Santiago Mare will captain the team, bringing his experience and leadership to the forefront. He is widely regarded as one of the Pumas 7s’ key players.

The Pumas 7s’ performance in Singapore will be a critical indicator of their potential for success throughout the revised World Sevens Circuit, as they strive to replicate their past triumphs and establish themselves as a dominant force in the sport.
