World Stocks Most of them went down on May 30, with a sharp drop in Europe and quiet trading in New York after lawmakers reached an agreement to suspend the US debt limit.
This session on Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.2% to 33,042.78 points.
The S&P 500 composite index was mostly flat at 4,205.52, while the Nasdaq Composite added 0.3 percent to close at 13,017.43.
On the other side of the Atlantic, European stock markets fell sharply as the FTSE 100 index in London (UK) fell 1.4% to 7,522.07 points.
The DAX 30 index in Frankfurt (Germany) lost 0.3% to 15,908.91 points and the CAC 40 index in Paris (France) lost 1.3% to 7,209.75 points. The Euro Stoxx 50 composite index closed down 0.7% to 4,291.58 points.
President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy reached an agreement to suspend the US debt ceiling late last week.
But the deal still has to be approved by Congress before June 5, the date the Finance Ministry said the country would not be able to meet its financial obligations.
While investors’ basic assumption remains that the US will avoid default, the market has remained under pressure in recent weeks due to growing concerns that a deal won’t come in time.

Some hardline Republican lawmakers said on Thursday they might oppose a deal to raise the debt ceiling in the United States, the world’s biggest oil user.
However, President Biden and Congressman McCarthy remain optimistic that the deal will “pass through” Congress.
While the deal brings support to the market, the two leaders will have to convince skeptics in their parties to back it. The House of Representatives is expected to vote on Wednesday, followed by the Senate.
In Vietnam, closing the session on May 30, VN-Index increased 3.07 points to more than 1,078 points. The whole floor had 225 gainers, 156 decliners and 60 standstill stocks.
HNX-Index increased by more than 1 point to 221.33 points. The whole floor had 102 stocks of gaining, 68 stocks of decreasing and 74 stocks of standing still.
