In Fukuoka (Japan), Léon Marchand dazzled at the World Swimming Championships by winning gold in the 200 and 400 m medley, as well as the 200 m butterfly. A hat-trick which allowed the 21-year-old Toulousain to be elected best swimmer of the World Championships and to pocket a prize-money of 90,000 dollars (82,000 euros).

This Sunday, Léon Marchand nicely summed up this triumphant week in a tweet: “Last week was a movie” (last week was a movie).

To illustrate it, he chose to put the photo of the 400m medley podium where Michael Phelps raises his arm. Holder of the previous world record since the 2008 Olympics, the latter saw the young Marchand pulverize his time: 4′2′50″ against 4′3′’84. A strong image of these Worlds. Like a transfer of power between the new star of world swimming and the American legend who was present in Fukuoka to commentate the races for NBC.
