World Tourism Day 2023: cultural projects exposed to investors at Nikki

In Benin, the 2023 edition of World Tourism Day (WTD) was celebrated on Thursday September 28, 2023. This edition of the WTD was marked by an exchange session with tourism stakeholders and investors in Nikki.

The celebration of World Tourism Day coincided with the official events of the Gaani identity festival celebrated in Nikki. It was therefore the Nikki Youth Center which hosted the official events. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Arts, Jean-Michel Abimbola, the Minister of Digital and Digitalization Aurélie Adam Soule Zoumarou, as well as city authorities and officials of the government agencies responsible heritage development and tourism promotion. The occasion served to highlight the government’s ambitious cultural projects.

A highlight of this JMT was the discussion session between tourism stakeholders and investors. The objective of this meeting is to strengthen collaboration between tourism stakeholders and investors in order to promote the sustainable development of the tourism sector in Benin.

The director general of the National Agency for Tourist Heritage (ANPT), Varissou Souayibou and the director of tourism development (DDT), took the opportunity to present the construction project of the Baru Tem Palace with 1,500 seats and the ‘Gaani Arena. “This is to ultimately make Benin a reference destination in West Africa, while respecting the preservation of cultural and natural heritage; to double the contribution of tourism to gross domestic product by 2030 and to reach the mark of 2 million tourists per year by 2030, through the implementation of several flagship projects”explained Minister Jean-Michel Abimbola.
