The world champion in clay pigeon shooting among juniors, the Italian Christian Gilly, died in a hunting accident, informs La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The incident took place on Thursday near the city of Pisa. While hunting with friends, the athlete bent down to pick up the fallen cartridges for his rifle and the weapon shot him in the stomach. The doctors who arrived at the scene took Gilly to the hospital and operated on, but they could not save the Italian.
Gilly took gold at the World Junior Clay Shooting Championships in October 2021.
