World Vision, an international relief and development NGO, announced on the 20th that it welcomes the establishment of the 22nd National Assembly research group, the ‘National Assembly Global Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Forum.’

On the 19th, the inaugural general meeting of the 22nd National Assembly research group, the National Assembly Global Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Forum, was held at the National Assembly Members’ Hall to mark World Humanitarian Day. Members gathered together to commemorate the launch of the forum and shared the articles of association and future activity plans.

This forum was attended by 29 members of the National Assembly, including Ahn Cheol-soo and Lee Jae-jung, and 25 cooperative organizations including the government, civil society, international organizations, academia, and businesses.

The forum will study the Republic of Korea’s strategy for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and realizing humanitarianism during the 22nd National Assembly term, as well as measures to respond to humanitarian crises and improve policies and systems for advancing government official development assistance.

Previously, World Vision had suggested the need to establish a platform for discussing relevant policies within the National Assembly in response to the reality of the growing global humanitarian crisis.

“I am pleased to see meaningful results from our continued efforts to create a platform for discussing relevant policies within the National Assembly,” said World Vision Chairman Myung-Hwan Cho. “The National Assembly Global Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Forum is even more meaningful as it was launched in a time when we are more at risk than ever due to the global complex crisis.”

He added, “I hope that through the largest bipartisan platform in the country that brings together experts in international development cooperation and humanitarian assistance, we can come up with creative and effective ways to achieve sustainable development and humanitarianism.”
