Initialed and signed by the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, and the Minister of Water and Forests of Côte d’Ivoire, Laurent Tchagba, this memorandum of understanding aims to strengthen institutional and technical cooperation between the two countries in the field of integrated water resources management.
It concerns in particular water legislation, the development of awareness-raising actions for the rationalization and protection of water resources and the integrated management of national and cross-border water resources.
The MoU also covers water transfer technology, groundwater management and water resources governance, including through the establishment of national and regional basin organizations.
In a statement to the press, Mr. Baraka welcomed the signing of this agreement which demonstrates the close relations between the two countries.
Morocco is ready to support Côte d’Ivoire in water resources management, particularly with regard to the establishment of basin agencies, he stressed.
For his part, Mr. Tchagba noted that the signing of this memorandum of understanding follows a preparation process begun last year in Fez on the occasion of the 3rd International Water and Climate Conference (July 6-7, 2023). ).
Ivory Coast, which adopted a water law last November, is counting on Moroccan experience to ensure better management of its water resources, he added.
