New Delhi: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said yesterday that a bamboo barricade has been set up for 200 meters on the Vani-Varora highway in Maharashtra. This bamboo barrier is a remarkable achievement for the first time in the world on a highway. It is named as ‘Baahubali’.

It was a great activity in the Self-Reliance India campaign. These bamboo barriers have been subjected to many tests at various government centers and at the National Vehicle Test Roads. In a fire test conducted at the Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, bamboo insulation received first class certification. This bamboo barrier is 50 to 70 percent recyclable.

However, only 30 to 50 percent of iron blocks can be recycled. A type of bamboo called ‘Bambusa falco’ is used for this barrier. It is coated with creosote oil and recycled high density polyethylene. This is a remarkable achievement for the bamboo industry and for India. This bamboo fence is a perfect alternative to iron fences. This does not affect the environment. Also, it is suitable for rural and agricultural industry. Gadkari said.
