Internal Security Minister Amr Bar Lev, who will soon be replaced by Otzma Yehudit chairman Itamar Ben Gabir, this morning referred to the events of the past weekend in Hebron in which there was a confrontation between IDF soldiers and leftist activists, and said that this is the effect of Itamar Ben Gabir’s strengthening.
In an interview with Radio 103FM, Bar Lev said: “These are difficult images that express the spirit of the times. A soldier attacks a protester who stands with his back to him and knocks him down in a very professional manner. Let’s not get confused, events of right and left demonstrations have also happened in the past. What has changed is that Otzma Yehudit received 14 Mandates. One of the soldiers said that Ben Gavir would make order.”
Regarding the chairman of Otzma Yehudit who, as mentioned, will replace him, under the new title of “Minister of National Security”, Barlev said: “Ben Gabir’s title is nonsense. No essence is created by such and such titles. Ben Gvir specializes in creating titles. It won’t change anything. I didn’t see him getting other powers.”
Bar Lev was asked if he would pass on an arranged overlap to Ben Gvir, and replied: “I don’t know what an arranged overlap is. I don’t think he would be interested in an arranged overlap.”
The interviewer did not let up and asked Bar Lev: “If he asks, will you give him an arranged overlap?” Bar Lev replied: “I don’t know. I don’t know what he will ask for and what I will grant.”
