Woven Histories: Textiles and Modern Abstraction, LACMA, Los Angeles. From September 17 to January 21, 2024.

Woven Stories: Textiles and Modern Abstraction presents deep research into the narratives of modern art history to chart how, when, and why abstract art intersected with weaving (and the use of earlier technologies) over the past century.

The various changes, alignments, affiliations and affinities are analyzed through artistic forms in dialogue, to construct intermittent narratives that influenced each other. In summary, the relationship between abstract art and textiles can be described as co-constitutive, and their histories as interdependent.

With around 150 works, this exhibition reveals the relationships between abstract art, fashion, design and crafts that shared aesthetic, cultural and socio-political trends and, at the same time, were impacted by modern art forms.
