Archaeologists have identified a 17th-century British warship that sank about 300 years ago off the Florida coast as HMS Tyger. As Day.Az reports, The Telegraph newspaper reported this with reference to statements by representatives of the Dry Tortugas National Park.

The ship ran aground in 1742 off the coast of Florida, stranding about 300 crew members on an uninhabited island, the newspaper reported.

Scientists first discovered the wreckage of a warship in 1993, writes The Telegraph. Tyger is believed to have washed up on the reef during the War of Jenkins’ Ear between Britain and Spain.
