Nickson, who has spent the last 15 years at Newcastle United, is currently serving a notice period following a successful recruitment process that saw Wrexham win the race for his signature over other interested clubs, including West Ham United and Birmingham City. The appointment establishes a newly-created role within the Welsh club, designed to bolster recruitment operations across both senior and youth levels.
A Proven Track Record in Player Markets
The arrival of Nickson brings significant experience to North Wales. Since 2017, he has served as head of recruitment at Newcastle, overseeing scouting operations and facilitating high-profile acquisitions. His tenure at the Magpies included pivotal roles in the signings of Miguel Almiron, Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman, and Ayoze Perez, as well as the identification of young prospects such as Antonio Cordero and Vakhtang Salia.
Before joining Newcastle in 2011, Nickson held a similar position at Blackburn Rovers, where he focused on youth recruitment. His work at Newcastle previously earned praise from former director Amanda Staveley, who described him as “amazing” and noted his deep knowledge of the player markets,

This transition occurs as Wrexham looks to build on a seventh-place finish in their first Championship campaign since 1981-82.
