Founded in 1986, the Grand Prix de la Francophonie of the Académie française is “intended to crown the work of a French-speaking natural person who, in their country or on an international scale, will have contributed eminently to the maintenance and illustration of the French language”, we read in the presentation of this distinction.
The winners for the year 2024 unveiled Thursday evening by the French Academy, contain 67 distinctions in the fields of literature, poetry, criticism, philosophy, history, cinema, theater and French music.
Born in 1945 in Rabat, Abdelfattah Kilito is a professor at the faculty of letters and human sciences in the capital. He also taught in Paris, Princeton and Harvard. He is the author of several works in Arabic and French, as well as studies and research published in scientific journals and Moroccan and Arab newspapers.
A member of the Human Sciences Commission of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, he has won several distinctions, the latest being the King Faisal International Prize for Arabic Language and Literature 2023.
