Questioning this, WTA President and CEO Steve Simon said in an email shared with state media on Wednesday that his concern over Peng Shuai had increased.

“Chinese state media report on Peng Shuai today only raises my concerns about his safety and whereabouts. We do not know if the email sent by Peng Shuai was actually written or for some other reason. It is difficult to believe the email published on media, ”Simon said in a statement.
Simon, a former first-ranked doubles champion who has won titles at Wimbledon and the French Open, said he had repeatedly tried to reach Penguin through “multiple contacts” but was unsuccessful.
