by time news

Iga Świątek is still confidently leading in the world ranking of tennis players, but after the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami, which ended on Saturday, in which the Polish woman did not start due to injury, her advantage over the runner-up Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus decreased by 1205 points.

Last year, Świątek triumphed in Miami, and the inability to defend the title meant that her achievements shrunk by 1,000 points. Sabalenka, on the other hand, reached the quarter-finals, while the season before, she had already lost her first match (in the second round), and gained 205 points.

American Jessica Pegula is still in third place, ahead of French Caroline Garcia and Tunisian Ons Jabeur. In the top ten for the first time since September 2021, the winner of the event in Miami, Czech Petra Kvitova (10th).

Magda Linette maintained her career-high 19th place. Magdalena Fręch advanced to the first hundred.

In the WTA Race ranking, which will select the eight best tennis players of 2023 – participants of the season-ending WTA Finals tournament – Świątek dropped from third to fourth position. Linette is still tenth.
