John cena’s Farewell Tour Reaches a milestone at WWE Survivor series: WarGames

The final premium live event appearance of john Cena’s storied WWE career is set to take place this saturday at survivor Series: WarGames, hosted at Petco Park in San Diego. This event marks a significant moment in wrestling history, as the second-longest-running WWE event – trailing only WrestleMania with 41 consecutive years – prepares for its 39th annual showcase in a city it hasn’t visited for a premium live event as 2008’s One Night Stand.

Survivor Series has long served as a pivotal platform for launching the careers of wrestling icons. The 1990 debut of The undertaker at Survivor Series foreshadowed his rise to become the most accomplished performer in the event’s history, boasting 13 victories. Other superstars, including The Rock (1996),Kurt Angle (1999),the Shield (Roman Reigns,Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose) (2012),and Sting (2014),all made their premium live event debuts at Survivor Series, cementing its reputation as a breeding ground for future legends.Notably, the innovative Elimination Chamber match format also debuted at the Survivor Series in 2002.

Since 2022, the show has featured both women’s and men’s WarGames matches, each comprised of five-person teams. This year’s men’s WarGames match will see The Judgment Day (Finn balor, damian Priest, Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, and a fifth member yet to be revealed) face off against a team led by Cody Rhodes, including Jey Uso, Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, and a final competitor who has yet to compete in a WarGames match. Conversely, Jey Uso brings the most WarGames experience to the table, having participated in three such matches (2022, 2023, and 2024) and remaining undefeated in the format. Drew McIntyre, though, is looking to break a streak of five consecutive losses at Survivor Series, his last win dating back to 2018 as part of Team Raw.

Women’s WarGames Match: History and Rivalries Collide

Rhea ripley and Iyo Sky share a unique connection, both having participated in the inaugural women’s WarGames match at NXT TakeOver: WarGames in 2019,albeit on opposing teams with Team Ripley emerging victorious. Sky stands out as the only woman to have competed in all seven women’s WarGames matches to date. Ripley, Charlotte Flair, and Nia Jax each have four Survivor Series victories, and another win for any of them would tie Mickie James and Bianca Belair for the most in the women’s division. Becky Lynch is aiming for her fourth consecutive Survivor Series win, with her last two victories coming in WarGames matches in 2022 and 2023.

Championship Showdowns: Cena’s Legacy and bella’s Return

The Intercontinental Championship hasn’t changed hands at Survivor Series since 2001, when Edge defeated Test in a unification match. Since then, the title has been successfully defended at the event six times, including last year’s edition. This match holds particular importance as it marks John Cena’s first Survivor Series appearance in eight years, his last being as part of Team SmackDown in 2017. Dominik Mysterio enters the match on a five-match premium live event winning streak, having recently defeated AJ Styles at SummerSlam in August, while Cena’s most recent PLE win also came against Styles at Crown Jewel in October.

The Women’s World Championship match will see Stephanie Vaquer making her Survivor Series debut against Nikki Bella, who has a perfect 2-0 record at the event, though her last appearance was 11 years ago, where she defeated AJ Lee to win the Divas Championship. Bella is seeking her first premium live event victory in over seven years, her last coming at Super Show-down in 2018 alongside her sister Brie and Ronda Rousey against the Riott Squad.

As Survivor Series: WarGames approaches, the event promises a blend of veteran experience, rising stars, and championship clashes, all culminating in a potentially historic night for John Cena as he embarks on the final leg of his WWE journey.
