Xavier Muñoz, who remained in office as a member of the Judiciary Council, resigned. The decision was known in the document sent to the Judiciary, Muñoz argues that he does it to exercise his right to defense.

In the document, Muñoz states: “in order to exercise my right to defense, I hereby irrevocably resign from the position of member of the Judiciary Council.”

The same Judiciary confirmed the decision. However, the entity reported that the document was presented on February 15, 2024. It also noted that the administrative procedures will begin to summon the substitute member to the Plenary sessions.

In this case, Solanda Goyes would be the member who would assume the position in the absence of Muñoz, who faces a legal process in the case called Judicial Independence.

On December 28, 2023, the judge of the National Court of Justice, Luis Rivera, issued preventive detention against Muñoz as part of the process in the Judicial Independence case.

The Prosecutor’s Office accuses Muñoz along with the former president of the Judiciary, Wilman Terán, for interfering in the process related to the former president of the Assembly, Guadalupe Llori, regarding a protection action requested after her dismissal from office./ El Expreso.
