Rafinha celebrates (Reuters)
Is Xavi on the way to getting the offensive reinforcement he has been waiting for? According to a report tonight (Tuesday) by the esteemed transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano, the transfer deal of the Brazilian from Leeds to Barcelona has been closed. The player will sign for five years and his new team will pay 58 million euros, which with bonuses can reach up to 67 million.
The winger was also a senior candidate for Chelsea, but as mentioned he seems to have chosen the Catalans and will be the first acquisition in the attacking part of Barcelona. The player is expected to arrive tomorrow for medical tests ahead of the signing and to join the team’s tour of the United States. Rafinha was the standout player at Leeds last season, finishing with 11 goals and three assists in 35 Premier League games. The Brazilian’s resume also has seven appearances in the World Cup qualifiers in which he scored three goals and added two assists.
The Catalans’ buying spree should not end here, as the team will try to close out the signing of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. In addition, the Catalans are expected to try and sign Chelsea’s defensive players, Marcus Alonso and Cesar Azpiliquata, with Osman Dembele also likely to extend his contract at the club.
