November marks 18 years since the launch of Xbox 360. A console that defined a generation that invited many people to play for the first time and connect with friends around the world. Over the years, we’ve heard stories of gamers who developed a lifelong love of video games, starting with Kameo, Gears of War, Fable 2 and other Xbox 360 classics. We’re thrilled that so many fans continue to enjoy their favorite Xbox 360 games on Xbox 360 or newer consoles through backward compatibility.
As we head into 2024, we want to share with you a change in your Xbox 360 experience:
On July 29, 2024, Xbox will stop supporting the ability to purchase new games, DLC, and other entertainment content from the Xbox 360 Store on console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace (marketplace.xbox.com). In connection with this change, the app Microsoft Movies & TV will no longer work on Xbox 360, which means that movie and TV content will no longer be viewable on your Xbox 360 after July 29, 2024.
From now until July 2024, you can continue to buy games and DLC in the Xbox 360 Store and Xbox 360 Marketplace.
This change it will not affect your ability to play Xbox 360 titles or DLC you have already purchased. Previously purchased Xbox 360 game content will continue to be available to play, not only on the Xbox 360 console, but also on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S devices through backward compatibility.

What hasn’t changed is our commitment to retain your ability to play content you’ve purchased on your preferred device, which means we’re committed to supporting Xbox 360 gameplay for the foreseeable future, so you’ll be able to play and play again. Will I still be able to play my Xbox 360 titles after July 2024?
Yes, you will be able to continue playing the titles you purchased on Xbox 360. If you purchased the game digitally or have a physical disc, you will be able to continue playing. In case you have deleted a game that you had purchased, but you want to play it again, you can download it again.
What will happen to multiplayer games over the Xbox network? Will I be able to play with my friends?
Yes. Even after July 2024, you will still be able to play and connect with friends through multiplayer in games you have purchased, as long as the publisher continues to support online servers. You can still save your games and progress in the cloud, and if you choose to continue any of those games available on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, your progress saved in the cloud will carry over.
Can I still buy and play Xbox 360 backward compatible titles?
Nothing will change when purchasing or playing backward compatible Xbox 360 titles. After July 29, 2024, You’ll still be able to buy hundreds of backward compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox games and DLC on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox.com. We believe in celebrating the rich history of gaming and have worked hard to preserve as many games as possible through our backwards compatibility program. How can I continue to stream and download Microsoft Movies & TV content that I purchased on Xbox 360?
The Microsoft Movies & TV app is available on Windows devices running Windows 10 or later, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Any content you have purchased from the Xbox 360 Store will remain in your library and will be available to view on those devices. Additionally, all purchased Movies & TV content eligible for Movies Anywhere will always be streamable and downloadable on the Movies Anywhere app or site.
