Beijing: The Communist government in China, which has strict control over the lives of people, is now going to control the minds of school children as well. For this, new textbooks on morality and law will be handed over to students in primary and junior high schools. The South China Morning Post has given this information quoting China’s state broadcaster CCTV. These books will be handed over to the students in the semester starting next week. Morality and law were known as ideology and politics until 2016. This is a compulsory subject that promotes the ideology of the ruling Communist Party.
Students will study Jinping’s philosophy
Topics highlighted in the new textbooks include the president’s political philosophy, Xi Jinping Thought. An education ministry official said traditional Chinese culture and national security will also be emphasized. All citizens in China are given nine years of compulsory education. This includes six years in primary school and the rest in junior high school. China’s state media reported that the new textbooks will initially be used in first and seventh grades. Within three years, it will be extended to all nine grades.
The report said the new textbook on ethics and law will introduce the main content and historical situation of Xi Jinping’s thoughts, officially known as “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”. Xi’s political philosophy was incorporated in China’s constitution in 2018. It has recently been expanded to cover seven aspects, covering economic, diplomatic, military and environmental affairs, as well as his directives on law, propaganda and party discipline.
Study of Sino-Indian War as well
The new history textbooks will include the 1962 border war between China and India. The war lasted for four weeks. There is a dispute between China and India over the Himalayan border, which covers an area of 120,000 square kilometers. There was a clash of soldiers between the two countries in 2020. Since then, both countries have deployed a large number of troops on the border. Along with this, the 1979 China-Vietnam conflict will also be included in the new history books. Tens of thousands of people from both sides were killed in this conflict, which Beijing called a ‘self-defense war against Vietnam’.
