Xi Jinping’s congratulatory message, eight months after New Year’s Day
Putin also congratulated… “Strengthening comprehensive partnership”
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the North Korean regime (September 9).
According to a congratulatory message released by North Korea’s external media outlet, Korean Central News Agency, on the 9th, Chairman Xi said, “In the new period and new situation, the Chinese side will continue to view and deal with China-North Korea relations from a strategic perspective and long-term perspective.”
Xi Jinping said that China will “work with the DPRK to deepen strategic communication, strengthen coordination and cooperation, and jointly safeguard, consolidate and develop the traditional China-DPRK friendly and cooperative relationship.”
The city council said it is willing to “jointly advance the socialist cause to provide greater welfare for the peoples of the two countries and make greater contributions to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world.”
He also said, “The two countries of China and North Korea are connected by mountains and rivers, and their traditional friendship has become stronger over time,” adding, “This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and North Korea, and is the ‘Year of China-North Korea Friendship.’”
It has been eight months since Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Chairman Kim, since January 1.
There is analysis that this reflects the deteriorating North Korea-China relationship compared to the close relationship between North Korea and Russia, which has been displayed since the summit held in Pyongyang in June.
Chairman Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged congratulatory messages on various occasions, including Liberation Day (North Korea calls it “Fatherland Liberation Day”), Russia Day, the 79th anniversary of Russia’s Victory Day, and President Putin’s fifth term.
President Putin also sent a congratulatory message commemorating the September 9th Independence Movement Day on the 7th.
He said, “The relations between our two countries, based on the excellent traditions of friendship and good-neighborliness, have reached a high level, as clearly demonstrated by our constructive and rich-content talks held in Pyongyang recently.”
He said, “I am confident that in the future, we will continue to systematically strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea through joint efforts.”
He continued, “This undoubtedly serves the fundamental interests of the peoples of our two countries and will contribute to ensuring the safety and stability of the Korean Peninsula and the entire Northeast Asia region,” adding, “I sincerely hope that you are healthy and successful and that all citizens of your country enjoy peace and welfare.”
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who established diplomatic ties with South Korea in February, said in a congratulatory message, “We attach great importance to our relations with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, which are based on a brotherly and historical foundation of mutual respect and support.”
