Xi Jinping wins third term as leader

The result is no surprise. Xi Jinping obtained a third term as head of China on Sunday, at the end of a congress which allowed him to strengthen his power over the Communist Party.

He was reappointed for five years as secretary general of the party, in a vote behind closed doors, and should therefore be officially confirmed as the country’s president in March 2023.
