Chinese mobile manufacturer Xiaomi has launched its first electric car. Named Xiaomi Modena, it is also known as MS11 for short. This car is expected to compete with the Tesla Model S when it is launched in China. The company has announced that it will start production of this car within a year. Xiaomi CEO Lee Zhen said, “Compared to global technology giants like Apple, Samsung and Sony, Xiaomi will be the first company to launch an electric car.
Commercially this car can be marketed in the first half of this year. The company has invested over Rs 3,500 crores in vehicle manufacturing and research. About 2,300 people are involved in these projects. The company’s plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of around 3 lakh cars.
