Xiaomi introduced smart glasses with a 50-megapixel camera and a Snapdragon 8 processor

by time news

About a year ago Xiaomi presented a prototype for smart glasses and it seems that now the company is ready to turn at least part of the vision into a real product.

The company has started a crowdfunding campaign through the Mijia sub-brand for glasses it calls “Mijia Glasses Camera”, although it looks like they’ll be able to do a lot more than just photography.

The glasses are based on a Snapdragon 8 chipset from Qualcomm (Qualcomm), with a working memory of 3 gigabytes and a storage capacity of 32 gigabytes. It will be used for the most part for photos that users will take using one of two cameras located on the frame of the glasses: a main camera with a 50-megapixel sensor, and another camera with an 8-megapixel resolution sensor and a periscope lens that magnifies up to five times.

The camera viewfinder rests on a tiny Micro OLED screen made by Sony. Through this display it will be possible to enjoy a real-time translation service, various augmented reality effects, and use of Xiaomi’s digital assistant. The battery has a capacity of 1,020 mAh, with support for wireless charging with a power of up to 10 watts. The weight of the glasses is about 100 grams.

As part of the campaign, Xiaomi offers the glasses for a price of about 270 dollars, and claims that later when they reach the store shelves, their price will rise to 400 dollars. However, the company does not commit to a clear delivery date for the time being – the project will not start before it reaches the recruitment target set by the company.
