Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 may become the first reversible foldable smartphone

by time news

Xiaomi was one of the first smartphone manufacturers to launch a phone with a foldable screen. However, prior to the launch of the MIX Fold last year, there were a few others coming our way from Huawei, Samsung, and Motorola. Anyway, the mentioned model has been the talk of the town for a long time. So its release was expected by many users. Now, behind this phone nicknamed the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 is on everyone’s lips.

The first generation of Xiaomi MIX Fold came with a number of innovative technologies such as liquid lenses. To understand what this means, let’s compare it to a conventional lens. When you take macro photos, the movement of objects inside the lens increases. Regardless, there are high requirements regarding solid state unit size, stroke design limitations are hard to beat, and zoom and macro photography can be done via digital cropping and post-zoom. Xiaomi liquid lens improves all the above issues.

However, in all fairness, Xiaomi MIX Fold could not reach perfect folding performance. Not many users were satisfied with the overall performance that this phone provides.

Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 to support 360° reverse folding

We must also understand that this was the first attempt by Xiaomi to launch a smartphone with a foldable screen. Moreover, we can recall the cases of Huawei and Samsung that could not launch their first foldable smartphones for a long time due to folding issues. But none of these companies will stop where they are. According to rumors, Xiaomi is working on a new foldable phone, which will hit the market this year.

Today, Weibo tip I found some information related to Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 in l18 code. The latter refers to the codename of the new generation of Xiaomi foldable screen. Also, the blogger proves that this phone will support reverse folding. If so, Xiaomi will be the first company to release a smartphone with a reversible foldable screen. However, at the moment, we have no information on whether the manufacturer can complete this technology.

Android 12L Out of the Box

In fact, Xiaomi has been working on a prototype of a foldable mobile phone since 2018. A few years ago, we saw a phone that folds in both directions. It was known as the U1 model. However, this phone is not available for purchase and has remained as a concept phone. We just saw a short video showing how it works. Now, it turns out that the manufacturer is trying to revive this phone.

The biggest problem with this device is that the interface to switch to foldable phone modes is slow. According to a leaked Xiaomi code, the MIX Fold 2 will have a function to adjust the interface size. When the phone is folded in any direction, the interface will be adjusted without errors.

Many of you may be wondering why Xiaomi did not implement this feature on the model that was introduced 3-4 years ago. But the truth is that this feature takes advantage of Android 12 L improvements for foldable phones. So, there is every reason to believe that the upcoming MIX Fold 2 will come with Android 12.1 pre-installed instead of Android 12.

Bigger highlights

If we believe the previous leaks, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 will adopt a large screen solution that folds right and left. The internal screen size is 8 inches, which is not much different from the 8.3 inch iPad mini. The external screen size is 6.5 inches.

Moreover, the same blogger revealed earlier that the upcoming phone will come with many improvements. For example, both indoor and outdoor monitors will support high refresh rates. As a reminder, the current model only supports 60Hz.

Finally, we heard that this phone will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 processor.

Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 Release Date

So when this phone is available for purchase. According to various sources, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 should come in June this year. Appears in many codes and platforms with model number 22061218C and code name cicada. Unfortunately, the phone has no plans to go outside of China.
