Smartphone displays have evolved to feature scratch-resistant glass, yet daily hazards like sand, keys, and coins in pockets still pose a constant threat to device longevity. To counter this, users frequently turn to screen protectors. Among the various options available across price points, liquid UV adhesive protectors gained traction specifically for curved-screen devices due to their ability to form a strong bond between the glass layer and the phone screen.
However, that strong bond comes with hidden operational hazards.
Xiaomi Warning Details Device Malfunction Risks
In an advisory shared on X, formerly Twitter, Redmi warned smartphone users to beware of liquid UV adhesive protectors. The company stated that the liquid adhesive used to ensure a proper fit can seep into vulnerable areas of the hardware, including physical keys, charging ports, speaker holes, and battery covers.
This infiltration can trigger unexpected device restarts, button malfunctions, speaker noise, and the peeling of leather battery covers. Because these application methods can result in functional device failures, the company warned that such damage could void your warranty.
So far, no other major smartphone manufacturer has issued a comparable warning or advisory to consumers regarding liquid UV adhesives. Even so, independent tech reporting confirms the underlying concern that leaving these liquid UV adhesive protectors on a display for an extended duration can cause permanent damage to the screen.
Recommended Alternatives and Replacement Offers
To avoid these hardware risks, manufacturers recommend switching to safer protective films and glass options that do not rely on liquid adhesives. Safer alternatives include traditional tempered glass, non-tempered films, or electrostatic films, which provide display protection without requiring liquid-based glue.
As part of its advisory rollout, the company is offering a free screen protector and complimentary installation specifically for Redmi Note 13 Pro+ users.
