It was the Paloise Section which drew the first. Then twenty-four hours later, it was Stade Français which had just secured the services of Jérôme Garcès as a referee consultant, according to information revealed by L’Équipe then confirmed by the Parisian club on social networks.

“Like every season, the capital club calls on a referee alongside its professional group. Thanks to Jérôme Garcès who will now intervene occasionally with our Rose & Bleu” posted Stade Français on X (formerly Twitter).

The 50-year-old former international referee received the green light from his official employer, the French Rugby Federation (FFR), to carry out “freelance” work in clubs but outside of Blues gathering periods.

The first club to jump at the opportunity was the Section Pau, leader of the Top 14 on Tuesday. And this Wednesday, it is Stade Français which announces the arrival of the referee for the 2019 World Cup final, between South Africa and England in Japan.

Like Pau, the Parisian club will be able to benefit one day a week from the presence of Jérôme Garcès to strengthen the field of refereeing, which took on another dimension during the World Cup in France. Sports director Laurent Labit and head coach Karim Ghezal are familiar with the world reference in the whistle having worked with him over the last two years with the French XV.
