Hernández Leads a Field of Contenders

All eyes are on Juan Alejandro Hernández, who is not only aiming for the national title but also crucial funding for his 2026 season, with over 300,000 pesos awarded to the winner.

Hernández demonstrated his potential earlier this year at the Los Cabos Open, securing a stunning upset against Japan’s Taro Daniel (3-6, 7-5, 6-4) before falling to Russian powerhouse Andrey Rublev. “It was a victory for a player almost in the 500th in the world against the 155th in the world,” a source close to the tournament noted, highlighting the significance of the win.

Pacheco and Alujas Challenge for Supremacy

Currently ranked as the second best player in Mexico,Hernández trails only Rodrigo Pacheco of Yucatán,who holds the 233rd position in the world. Another strong contender is Rodrigo Alujas from Jalisco, who has honed his skills competing in tournaments across Europe and Africa and currently sits at 697th in the ATP rankings. Alujas recently reached the quarterfinals of the AspiriaOpen, an ITF M25 tournament in Guadalajara, and also achieved semifinal runs in Manzanillo and Santiago de Chile.

Rising Stars and Veteran Champions

The tournament will also feature Alan Magadan of Zacatecas, considered a favorite due to his recent success, including a victory at the AMTP tournament in Tecamachalco. Magadan is currently ranked sixth in Mexico and is poised for a breakout 2026. Rafael de Alba, recently named to the Davis Cup team, is also expected to make a strong showing, building on a triumphant 2025.

Five-time national champion Manuel Sánchez of Potosí will be aiming for his sixth crown, leveraging his extensive experience and success in doubles play. wild card recipients Alan SauFranco and Arturo Kam add further intrigue to the competition, bringing their unique skills and international experience to the court.

AMTP Circuit Players Enter the Fray

Players making the leap from the AMTP circuit, including top-ranked Eduardo Orozco and Diego Eloy Méndez, will also compete in the main draw. Orozco enjoyed a prolific 2025, while Méndez recently secured his 27th AMTP title and earned his first ITF points, opening doors to future tournament opportunities.

The qualification phase concluded Monday, adding eight new players to the main draw. Marco Álvarez demonstrated his dominance with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Carlos Guzmán, while Juan Pablo Roldán jacobson and Eduardo Roldán also secured their spots with decisive wins.
