Former Prime Minister and current opposition leader Yair Lapid recently revealed on his Twitter page that he received a holiday present. He shared a cartoon from the news site “Hadari Chirim” featuring an image of a pig holding banknotes with signs that read, “A demonstration, no matter what.” Lapid expressed his concerns about the anti-Semitic portrayal of Jews as pigs throughout history and wondered how people would react if the ultra-Orthodox leaders were also portrayed as pigs. He conveyed his disappointment in the cartoon and wished all the people of Israel a happy holiday. Lapid emphasized that the demonstration is about the soul of the State of Israel and stressed its significance.

“I received a present for the holiday,” announced this evening (Tuesday) former Prime Minister and current opposition leader Yair Lapid in a post on his Twitter page. In the post, Lapid shared a cartoon published on the news site “Hadari Chirim”, in which there is an illustration of a pig in his image holding banknotes and signs on them that read : “A demonstration, no matter what”.

“‘In my ultra-Orthodox rooms’ they published a caricature of me as a pig holding money. That’s how anti-Semites have portrayed the Jews throughout the generations and I’m trying to think what would happen if they published pictures of the ultra-Orthodox leaders as pigs that all they care about is money. Imagine the cries, the approach,” wrote Lapid on the social network.

He added: “I look at this sad cartoon and feel ashamed for them. I wish a happy holiday to all the people of Israel. By the way, it does matter what the demonstration is about. It is about the soul of the State of Israel. No less.”
