At-risk people in Yala receive the “influenza” vaccine in a lively manner

Yala City Municipality has opened a free vaccination service center in order to prevent four strains of influenza. The center is particularly focused on providing services for high-risk groups. The Yala Municipality Public Health Service Center 3, also known as Thanawithi, has been inaugurated today.

The target groups for this vaccination service are women who are 16 weeks pregnant or older, elderly people aged 60 or older, mentally handicapped individuals, and individuals with thalassemia/immune deficiency, obesity (weight >100 kg/BMI >35), and chronic diseases. The center offers free vaccination against four strains of influenza to those who have registered to reserve the vaccine. Nearly one thousand people have already received the services.

According to the center staff, this vaccination initiative is crucial due to the ongoing influenza epidemic. The number of patients with influenza symptoms is alarmingly high, especially among vulnerable groups. Notably, there are 608 elderly individuals with chronic diseases who have not yet been vaccinated. In response to this need for protection and care for the health of the people, Yala City Mayor Mr. Phongsak Yingchancharoen and the management team of Yala City Municipality have procured four strains of influenza vaccine to administer to at-risk individuals in Yala Municipality. The vaccine is provided free of charge, with a goal to vaccinate 1,500 people.

Within just three to four days of opening reservations for vaccination, a total of 1,500 people from the municipality have already reserved the vaccine. For those who missed their appointment, they can visit the center and register to receive the injection immediately between September 14 and 15, 2023.

It is important to note that individuals who are infected with the new species of influenza typically start showing symptoms 1-3 days after exposure to the virus. These symptoms are similar to those commonly associated with influenza, such as fever, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, cough, sore throat, and gastrointestinal symptoms like anorexia, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. While some patients experience mild symptoms and recover without hospitalization within 5-7 days, others may develop severe pneumonia with symptoms such as rapid breathing, fatigue, panting, and difficulty breathing, which can potentially lead to death.
