In search of solutions for the water crisis in Canelones, the mayor Yamandú Orsi leads the first meeting of the Water Cabinet, something like the Honorary Scientific Advisory Group (GACH) but focused on the water crisis. This important team, which brings together both departmental authorities and leading specialists, seeks to address the challenges facing the region in terms of water resources and public health.

The Water Cabinet is concretized as a body for the search for solutions in the midst of the water crisis that has affected Montevideo and Canelones for months. The first meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, July 25, will be attended by technical and political teams from the Municipality of Canelones, who are closely linked to the most affected sectors.

The presence of outstanding academics and UN representatives

What makes this first meeting of the Water Cabinet in Canelones even more outstanding is the participation of renowned academics from the University of the Republic. Among them are prominent experts in ecology and environmental sciences, such as Marcel Achkar, as well as Guillermo Goyenola, a member of the Maldonado Regional University Center, and Paula Collazo, belonging to the Faculty of Sciences.

The relevance of this meeting is not limited to the national level, since it will also have the presence of the senior specialist in Water Resources Management, Klaas de Groot, who will contribute his experience and knowledge on the matter from the international level. In turn, the Pan American Health Organization will send a specialist who will be confirmed shortly, adding even more perspectives and experience in addressing the challenges related to water and health.
