How does public-private cooperation enhance welfare initiatives in local communities like Yangpyeong-gun?
Interview between Time.news Editor and Welfare Expert Dr. Lee Jong-soo
Setting: A cozy conference room adorned with welfare project posters and visuals from projects implemented in Yangpyeong-gun.
Time.news Editor (TNE): Welcome, Dr. Lee! We’re delighted to have you hear today to discuss the remarkable achievements of Yangpyeong-gun in the latest welfare awards. Winning the Welfare Administration Award for ten consecutive years is no small feat. What does this milestone signify for the region?
Dr. Lee Jong-soo (DLS): Thank you for having me,and yes,it’s truly remarkable. This achievement highlights the commitment and consistency of Yangpyeong-gun’s local government under Governor Jin Jeon-seon. Winning the Welfare Administration Award indicates that the policies implemented not only meet but exceed the standards set by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, demonstrating exemplary dedication to enhancing the quality of life for residents.
TNE: That’s fascinating! The evaluation criteria included several categories, such as the policy for the disabled and public-private cooperation. Could you elaborate on why these aspects are notable in welfare management?
DLS: Absolutely. Policies for the disabled ensure that this vulnerable population receives adequate support, which is crucial for thier integration and participation in society. Moreover, public-private cooperation allows for a broader resource mobilization, creating a network of support systems that can address various welfare needs more effectively. It’s a win-win situation, where both sectors bring their strengths to the table.
TNE: Yangpyeong-gun specifically excelled in preventing lonely deaths and managing child abuse cases. Can you discuss the impact of these initiatives on the community?
DLS: Yes, these initiatives are vital. The prevention of lonely deaths indicates that the local government is proactively identifying individuals at risk of social isolation and intervening with services that promote community engagement. It helps foster a sense of belonging. Regarding child abuse management, operating an effective response system not only aids in safeguarding children but also builds trust within the community, ensuring families feel supported and nurtured.
TNE: There’s also mention of their “Dream Start Project.” What can you tell us about this initiative?
DLS: The Dream Start Project is an excellent example of targeted welfare intervention. It’s designed to support families with young children from low-income backgrounds, offering services like health checkups, educational support, and even parenting classes. It embodies the principle that early intervention can significantly impact a child’s development, setting them on a path for future success.
TNE: Yangpyeong-gun has set a high standard with its integrated approach to welfare.what do you think other regions can learn from their success?
DLS: The key takeaway is the importance of a holistic approach to welfare. It’s not enough to have isolated programs; there should be synergy between services, ensuring that all aspects of welfare—from health to housing and education—are interconnected. Regular evaluations and feedback from the community are also crucial in adapting these services to changing needs.
TNE: As we look forward, what do you foresee for the future of welfare in areas like Yangpyeong-gun, especially in a post-pandemic world?
DLS: The focus will increasingly shift toward digitalization of services and inclusive programs that cater to diverse groups, including the elderly and underrepresented communities. Moreover, addressing mental health, which has gained prominence during the pandemic, will be paramount. Yangpyeong-gun has already laid a solid foundation, and as they continue to innovate and respond to emerging challenges, they can set a benchmark for others to follow.
TNE: Thank you so much, Dr. Lee, for sharing your insights. It’s inspiring to see how dedicated communities, like Yangpyeong-gun, can redefine welfare and uplift lives.
DLS: Thank you for having me.It’s exciting to see how collaborative efforts in welfare can create lasting positive changes.
