What impact ⁤will the public auction ⁢of seized assets have on⁤ tax delinquency⁤ rates in Yangpyeong-gun?

Time.news Interview: ⁢Tackling Tax Delinquency in Yangpyeong-gun

Editor: Welcome, everyone! ‍Today, we have a special guest, ⁣Nam Young-ae, the ⁣head⁣ of the tax department at the Yangpyeong County Office. We’re here to ‌discuss an important initiative by Yangpyeong-gun: the upcoming public ‍auction of seized movable assets from⁤ local tax delinquents. Thank you for joining us, Nam Young-ae!

Nam Young-ae: Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to be here.

Editor: ⁢ Let’s jump right in. Can you briefly explain the purpose of this⁣ public auction?

Nam Young-ae: Absolutely. The public auction⁤ serves multiple purposes. First ‍and foremost, it’s aimed at recovering funds from chronic tax delinquents. By seizing items such as luxury bags, watches, and precious metals from defaulters, we can not⁤ only collect owed taxes but also send a strong message about the importance of fair tax ⁤payments.

Editor: You ⁢mentioned ⁤that 835 items will be auctioned off, collected from house searches of large debtors across‌ 35 local governments. What types of items can bidders expect?

Nam Young-ae: Yes,‍ we have a wide array of items, including luxury fashion items and precious metals. These goods have been confiscated⁢ from individuals who have repeatedly failed to fulfill their tax ⁢obligations. It’s quite a⁣ diverse collection,⁤ and we hope to attract bidders ‍who see value not only in the items but also in ‌contributing to a fairer tax system.

Editor: It’s fascinating that the‍ bidding can only be done via smartphone by on-site participants. ⁤What inspired this digital approach?

Nam Young-ae: The decision to implement smartphone ⁢bidding is part of our initiative to embrace technology ⁤and streamline the auction process. By allowing bids to ⁣be ⁢placed digitally, we aim to make participation easier and more accessible, especially for younger individuals who are comfortable using their phones. ⁤It’s also a measure to reduce crowding and ensure safety during the event.

Editor: That’s an innovative approach! You also mentioned that the⁢ auction items were seized from “chronic delinquents with weak tax awareness.” Can you elaborate on what that means for ⁣your strategies in addressing tax delinquency?

Nam Young-ae: Certainly. Chronic⁢ delinquents are often individuals who either do not understand their tax obligations or choose to ignore them. Our approach combines enforcement—like these seizures—with education and outreach to foster better awareness and compliance in the community. Through initiatives like this auction, we hope to encourage a culture of honesty when it comes to tax payments.

Editor: Very interesting! You’re also promoting the ‘2024 1st ‌Yangpyeong-gun ⁣Beautiful Signboard Contest’ to enhance urban aesthetics. How do such initiatives complement your tax collection efforts?

Nam ⁤Young-ae: They complement each other‌ wonderfully. While our primary goal is fair⁣ taxation, creating a visually appealing environment can enhance⁤ community engagement and ‌pride. Initiatives like the signboard contest‍ draw focus to our efforts as a local government, demonstrating that we are not only⁤ concerned about tax collection but also the ⁣overall welfare and beauty of our community.‍ A proud community is often‌ more willing to⁢ engage in civic ⁢duties, ⁤including tax compliance.

Editor: ⁢It’s admirable how these efforts interplay. Before we conclude, what message do you have for potential bidders and the community⁤ at large?

Nam Young-ae: I encourage everyone to participate⁢ in the auction—not just ‍for the chance to⁣ acquire unique items but also to support the vital cause ⁣of fair taxation. By⁣ getting involved, you ‌contribute to establishing a culture of responsible citizenship. Together, we can work ‍towards ⁤a community where everyone fulfills their obligations, and we all benefit from the services taxes help provide.

Editor: Thank you, Nam Young-ae, for sharing your insights and the‍ important work being done in Yangpyeong-gun. We ⁢wish you ⁣success ‍with the ⁢auction and your ongoing initiatives!

Nam Young-ae: Thank ⁤you ⁤for having me! I appreciate the opportunity to discuss our efforts.
