Products Abound at Yantzaza’s Gastronomic Festival
The Yantzaza canton in the Zamora Chinchipe province is gearing up for the “Ruta de las molinos” (Grinding Route) gastronomic festival, to be held on July 27th. This event will showcase a diverse array of products made from sugarcane, the main ingredient in the canton.
Entrepreneurs and producers from various neighborhoods will display their creations at the festival. The focus of the festival is to celebrate agrotourism, highlighting the work of rural people and entrepreneurs while promoting tourism in the Yantzaza canton.
The day will kick off with a festive tour of the city, featuring a decorated goat. Various competitions will follow, including those for the best stam, most innovative product, heaviest cane, cane peeling, best granulated panela, best honey, and a cultural Bodypaint competition with a sugarcane theme. The event will also feature dance and musical performances, as well as a special presentation by local artist Juan Guamán.
“We want to showcase not only the richness of our land and the hard work of our producers, but also our culture and the production of panela, a symbol of our Yantzaza canton,” said Raquel Naula, president of the Yantzaza GAD tourism commission.
The festival will be held in the neighborhoods of Pita Alto, el Naranjito, San Miguel, Unión lojana, Montalvo, and San Luis. Local entrepreneurs will be selling honey, panela, alfeñiques, snacks, and guarapo.
The mayor of Yantzaza canton, María Lalangui, invites everyone in the canton, province, and country to join the festival and enjoy the delicious local products.
