This precocious champion won a gold medal in the under 51 kg category at the African Championships in Brazzaville in 2017, at just twenty years old, before winning a silver medal at the African Games in Rabat in 2019.
Driven by her love for “the noble sport” and her desire to surpass herself, she won the bronze medal hands down at the women’s amateur boxing world championships organized in India in 2023 in the under 48 kg category, thus marking the influence of Moroccan women’s boxing in this competition.
Gold medalist at the African amateur boxing championships in Yaoundé in 2023 and silver at the Pan Arab Games in Algiers the same year, Yasmine Mouttaki has managed, over the course of the competitions, to sharpen her style and gain confidence to secure the precious ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, like her compatriots Khadija El Mardi and Widad Bertal, worthy representatives of Moroccan women’s boxing.
The Casablanca native got her start in combat sports, practicing kickboxing and full contact from a young age, before discovering boxing, “a sport that completely changed my life,” she told MAP.
Regarding the stereotypes that accompany the practice of this sport by women, Yasmine Mouttaki assured that from the beginning of her boxing career, she was widely supported and encouraged by her family and those around her, a motivation that allowed her to evolve and flourish in the practice of this sporting discipline.
For the young Casablanca woman, who has gained experience and advanced in the ring in all four corners of the world, practicing sport in general and boxing in particular has allowed her to find her vocation and has changed her life in the best possible way.
Regarding her preparations for the Paris Olympics, a major event that she is eager to compete in like all the athletes who will take part, Yasmine Mouttaki emphasized the important role of the Royal Moroccan Boxing Federation and its technical staff in the development of her career and the improvement of her performances, notably through preparation courses in Morocco and abroad. Efforts that have borne fruit with two medals won by Moroccan boxers at the world championships in India.
“Qualifying for the Olympic Games is a dream come true for me, a dream that I am very proud of,” she said, adding that “offering an Olympic medal to Morocco represents the Holy Grail for me and for all athletes in all disciplines.”
For the Moroccan boxer, “representing Morocco at the Olympic Games is a responsibility that I am aware of but also a source of additional motivation”, expressing the wish to win a gold medal in this great international sporting event and honor the national colors.
Yasmine Mouttaki, who punched her ticket to the Paris Olympics by beating Diyoka Benedicte of the DR Congo by 5 points to 0 in the semi-final of the African Zone Boxing Qualification Tournament held in Senegal. Her compatriots Widad Bertal (54 kg) and world champion Khadija El Mardi (75 kg) will also be there, with the hope of making a historic appearance.
