YB women beat GC 3-0 away and thus move to the top of the table in the AXA Women’s Super League.
The YB women started to get mad. Right at the start, Naomi Luyet, who was called up to the Swiss national team at the beginning of the week, was sent on her way with precise passes – both times they were unsuccessful. In the third minute it was Luyet herself who sent the ball from the team and her teammate Nati Iman Beney. Beney shot from a tight angle, but was denied by GC goalkeeper Isabel Rutishauser. Rutishauser, who was confident in the previous action, failed to attempt a goal kick in the 14th minute of the game and played the ball straight into the legs of Naomi Luyet. Luyet took advantage of a GC mistake and shot YB women 1-0 ahead.
It wasn’t until the 23rd minute that YB got into trouble for the first time: the Zurich team made their way to the baseline and crossed the ball to the middle. Nina Predanic was waiting there – Tamara Biedermann, who was also defending the YB goal today, intercepted the ball safely. Those watching the GC/Campus saw a disorganized GC defense on one side and a YB offense on the other. This was also the case in the 32nd minute of the game, when goal scorer Naomi Luyet ran after a pass from Courtney Strode. From the edge of the penalty area, Luyet lifted the ball over the GC defense straight into the net to make it 2-0.
Even after the break, YB women were not on their way. But four minutes after the restart, the Bernese women were again in the GC penalty area. Iman Beney lost the ball in a challenge – Captain Stephanie Waeber was there, took control and, without hesitation, the ball went into the net from the edge of the penalty area to make it 3-0. The GC women were a bit more creative in the second half, but still couldn’t find any successful solutions. In the 70th minute, the Hoppers had an opportunity to counter-attack, which was stopped by defender Leana Zaugg on the halfway line. Giulia Looser had the best GC chance of the match – But Biedermann kept on this shot too. The YB ladies pushed hard until the final whistle and tried to extend their game, but did not score any more goals.
From Bern’s point of view, the match between YB and GC ended 3-0. The YB ladies not only secured their eighth consecutive win, but also made their way to first place in the AXA Women’s Super League table.
