On February 9th, Kanye West released his first album in three years, and a week later he – according to West in a video – “is taking a stand against classism”: On the website of his brand Yeezy, the scandal rapper is lowering prices on February 13th of all products to 20 dollars in the USA or 18 francs if you open the site in Switzerland. This also includes the already sold-out Yeezy Pods – the first pair of shoes that West has released since parting ways with Adidas.

Shirts and tops cost 18 francs on the official Yeezy website, but you cannot order the items in Switzerland.

However: Even if the prices on the website are stated in francs, you cannot have something delivered to Switzerland directly from Yeezy.

Foldable sock shoes for $200

Just the day before, the foldable models, which are more reminiscent of socks, were sold for 200 dollars (the equivalent of around 176 francs). In its story, the brand says that buyers should contact customer service to get 180 dollars (the equivalent of 158 francs) back.

The number of messages is likely to be significant: At the same time as the price drop, West shares a screenshot of a message saying that he made more than $19 million in one day. Among other things, because he sold 266,000 pairs of shoes to men and women.

20 dollars were planted

The cheap campaign doesn’t come as a complete surprise; the rapper has had similar plans in the past. As part of a collaboration with Balenciaga and Gap, he says he tried to bring the prices of hoodies and shirts down to the same amount. «Gap didn’t lower prices to $20 like I asked. They’re still trying to maintain the classism that is behind the idea of Balenciaga and the idea of Gap.” Later in the interview he refers to himself as Robin Hood. With the comment “Yeezy for the People,” West probably shares a picture of the cartoon version of the character in his next post.

In the past, West had made anti-Semitic comments several times. In the show of the right-wing extremist US radio maker Alex Jones (49), the rapper declared in December 2022: “I also love Nazis” and “I like Hitler,” Jews couldn’t forbid him from doing that.
