Yellow alert activated for heavy rains for August 16

The Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) asset yellow alert by forecast of heavy rains in all the demarcations of the CDMX.

This Friday, August 16, through an information sheet, the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of CDMX informed the inhabitants of all districts about the activation of this yellow alert, following the heavy rains that are forecast during the afternoon-evening of this day.

In this regard, the capital’s agency detailed at 12:20 p.m. that between 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., rains of between 15 and 29 millimeters and possible hail are forecast in the following areas:

  • Azcapotzalco
  • Benito Juarez
  • Coyoacan
  • Cuauhtémoc
  • Cuajimalpa
  • Gustavo A. Madero
  • Iztacalco
  • Iztapalapa
  • Magdalena Contreras
  • Miguel Hidalgo
  • High Milpa
  • Tláhuac
  • Tlalpan
  • Venustiano Carranza
  • Xochimilco

He also recommended that residents of the capital carry umbrellas or raincoats and use rainwater to water plants.

Also, remember to sweep drains and keep them free of trash or objects that block them and not pour fats into the drain.

For motorists, however, he urged them to drive with caution, as they may find tree remains or objects dragged or knocked over.

On the other hand, the National Water Commission indicated that the most intense rainfall could cause landslides, increased levels of rivers and streams in states such as Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán and Oaxaca, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Puebla, Sonora, Tabasco and Veracruz, Durango, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Nayarit, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, Yucatán, as well as overflows and flooding in low-lying areas of the aforementioned states, for which reason the population is urged to heed the warnings of the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the National Water Commission (Conagua), and follow the recommendations of Civil Protection.
