Thiruvananthapuram ∙ Central Meteorological Department has announced yellow alert in 9 districts of Kerala due to rising temperature. The alert has been issued in Palakkad, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Thrissur, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Kannur districts. Temperatures in these districts are forecast to rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius above normal.

From March 13 to 17, the maximum temperature will rise to 39 degrees Celsius in Palakkad and Kollam districts, 38 degrees Celsius in Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts, 37 degrees Celsius in Thrissur district and 36 degrees Celsius in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Kannur districts.

Due to high temperature and humid air, these districts, except the hilly areas, are prone to hot and humid weather. Avoid direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm. It is advised to cover the head with a cloth, hat, umbrella etc. and to drink more water even if one is not thirsty.
