While his former club, PSG, is playing its first match in the UEFA Champions League this Tuesday against Dortmund, Neymar Jr was playing his very first match in the AFC Champions League this Monday evening (the Asian Association of Clubs). The result was, unfortunately, not favorable for the Brazilian and Al-Hilal.
Despite the presence of the Brazilian number 10 at the kick-off, but also that of three other strong recruits (Ruben Neves, Malcom and Aleksandar Mitrovic), the “Blue Waves” could not do better than a draw ( 1-1) against the Uzbek club PFC Navbahor Namangan. The teammates of Neymar, who was booked in the 60th minute, were even behind for a good part of the second half, after the visitors opened the scoring by Toma Tabatadze (52nd). It was a goal a few seconds before the end of the match from defender Ali Albulayhi which allowed Al-Hilal to avoid defeat (90th + 10).
The Brazilian played his first minutes in the Saudi team jersey at the end of last week. A much more conclusive debut, with a big victory in the Saudi Pro League against Al Riyad (6-1) and an assist to his credit. The Brazilian’s debut on the Asian continental scene had less panache.
