After a series of meetings in Saudi Arabia and Oman, the Huthi rebels and the Yemeni government committed “in favor of a series of measures to establish a ceasefire throughout the country” and accepted “participate in preparations for the resumption of an inclusive political process, under the auspices of the UN”, as indicated on Saturday by that organization.

The Yemeni executive “evaluates positively” the UN declaration regarding “to the efforts carried out under the auspices of the UN (…) to end the war”, he assured in a statement published Saturday night.

Considered the poorest country on the Arabian peninsula, Yemen has been immersed in a bloody conflict for more than 8 years between government forces supported by the Saudi Arabia/United Arab Emirates on the one hand and the Huthi rebels, linked to Iran, on the other. .

After causing hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions of refugees, the fighting has greatly reduced in intensity, especially since a truce was negotiated by the United Nations in April 2022, which lasted until October of this year, which explains the low intensity of the hostilities since then.
