President Yoon Seok-yeol visited Yongsan Children’s Garden near the Yongsan Presidential Office building without notice on the 6th, the last day of advance voting for the April 10 general election, and communicated with citizens.
On the 6th, President Yoon toured the fountain garden and baseball field at Yongsan Children’s Garden and met and talked with several families and children. President Yoon took pictures with the citizens and said, “Come visit us often.”
On the 5th, President Yoon voted in advance in Busan and then attended the opening ceremony of Busan Port New Port Pier 7 and the Arbor Day commemoration event. He also completed five official schedules, including visiting the Pusan National University Hospital area trauma center and Samgwangsa Temple. On the 2nd and 4th, he chaired the follow-up inspection meeting of the People’s Livelihood Debate. An official from the Presidential Office said on the 7th, “Regardless of the general election, the President’s Office has a policy of ‘doing what needs to be done.’” He added, “President Yoon plans to drive again to implement reform tasks after the general election.” An official from the People Power Party said, “There is some concern that the opposition party’s ‘government judgment theory’ frame may be gaining momentum as President Yoon’s actions are highlighted.”
The Democratic Party of Korea criticized President Yoon, saying, “Get out of the general election immediately.” Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Democratic Party’s National Election Commission, said of President Yoon’s visit to the regional trauma center at Pusan National University Hospital, where there was a ‘controversy over Lee Jae-myung’s helicopter transfer’, “They summoned a terrible case of political terrorism to attack the leader of the opposition party and packaged it as if it were a medical policy.” He said, “If this is not election involvement, what is it?”
Previously, former President Moon Jae-in also continued his official schedule ahead of the April 15, 2020 general elections. Former President Moon’s schedule included Gangneung, Gangwon-do (tree planting event) on the 5th, Myeong-dong, Seoul (financial sector on-site meeting) on the 6th, and Incheon International Airport (quarantine site visit) on the 7th.
