The Russian side is extremely sorry about Armenia’s participation in the NATO summit in Washington.

As reported by Day.Az, Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Galuzin stated this in an interview with Russian media.

Earlier it was reported that Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan visited Washington on July 9-10, where he took part in events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of NATO.

Speaking about the security sphere, Galuzin emphasized that instead of a constructive approach to discussing Yerevan’s concerns regarding the CSTO, unfortunately, they chose a different path, said the Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“Armenia prefers to increase cooperation with NATO or individual members of the alliance, especially in terms of implementing NATO standards, purchasing weapons or conducting joint combat training events, not to mention participating in the summit of this military-political bloc currently taking place in Washington. All this can only cause extreme regret,” he said.

From the diplomat’s point of view, “by deepening cooperation at such a pace with those whose goal is the ‘strategic defeat’ of Russia, Yerevan risks seriously destabilizing the situation in the South Caucasus with its own hands, including to the detriment of its own security.”

According to him, knowledgeable specialists and politicians in Armenia understand the possible costs of such reckless steps.

“In my opinion, the unrealistic nature of attempts to “sit on two chairs”, albeit in a different – economic – sphere, was expressed very clearly by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexei Overchuk in his speech at the Primakov Readings forum in Moscow at the end of last month, speaking about Yerevan’s European aspirations in relation to its obligations in the EAEU,” noted Galuzin.
